The Lands End to John O’ Groats route is a classic cycle challenge that many enthusiasts undertake each year. Some people do it to raise money for a charity that is close to their heart and others are just looking for exhilaration and a sense of adventure.
The Altnaharra Hotel offers low cost accommodation for cyclists doing this route as well as many others. We have a simple log cabin in the hotel grounds that comprises of three single rooms and shared bathroom facilities. Being just over 70 miles from John O’ Groats, the hotel is popular with cyclists needing accommodation for the last night of their ride. The whole trip normally takes between 10 and 14 days depending how far you travel each day, which means that accommodation bills can soon add up. Our log cabin is extremely affordable. In addition bikes can be locked away in our secure garage area overnight and wet equipment and clothes can be dried in our drying room.
We want to make sure that you start the last (or first) night of your ride in the right way, and so for those staying B&B, we serve a hearty Scottish breakfast in the Dining Room. Our Ghillies Bar serves a range of lunchtime and late afternoon* meals which can be enjoyed by hungry cyclists continuing on their journey as well as those staying the night with us.
For any cyclists looking for something a little more luxurious, the hotel has a number of comfortable bedrooms available for booking.
*Last orders for Bar Meals is at 6:30pm, with service switching to the Main Hotel Restaurant from 7pm.
